Day guiding
You may live local, but not have the confidence or knowledge to make the most of what you have on your doorstep?
You may already have friends to stay with or know a good hotel you already like, but want to make the most of your visit?
You may not have the time to be away for more than 1 day?
So, day guiding is just for you.
We meet in Edale, North Peak Park, at a convenient point for you to travel by car, train or bus. After quick introductions we can guide you on a variety of walks we have already trodden, to ensure that you get the most from your day out with us.
One of our favourites is Edale Skyline Route: from the railway station we head towards the base of the Kinder Scout plateau and the start (or finish) of the Pennine Way (England’s first long distance footpath). Following this famous Way westwards, we wander up the Edale Valley on the well trodden path to Upper Booth, where we can look up the valley to Jacobs Ladder. We turn southwards across the valley, starting the steady walk up the wide Chapel Gate track to reach the bridleway that runs along the spectacular east/west ridgeline that forms part of the famous 'Skyline' walk. From our lofty perch, as we walk eastwards across Lords Seat and onto the Iron Fort of Mam Tor (the Shivering Mountain), panoramic views of both the Edale and Castleton valleys unfold. Passing the viewpoint at Hollins Cross we take in the views up valley from Back Tor, before heading leisurely back into the Edale valley and returning to our start point (with a convenient watering hole nearby).
This walk can be appropriate for beginners/intermediate walkers, taking approximately 4-6hours, with plenty of rest stops to take in the views.
You can be rest assured that you will be in the company of qualified guides with full first aid training and knowledge of the area we will be walking in. We want to make sure that you have a gr8 day out and go home happy in the knowledge that you have seen a little bit more of the places you have visited.
Edale station is on the trainline connecting Sheffield and Manchester mainline stations (running every hour). Summer bus services also run out of both city centres via Hope every 2hours. Edale can also be reached by car, 50minutes from Sheffield, 1hour from Manchester.
Prices for a days guiding start at £20 per person, this includes:
- walk/bike guiding for the day with your qualified guides
- transport, food & drink excluded
